Have you wondered "What are the Humanities?" You should.

Here are a couple of perspectives to help you get started in thinking about 21st century humanities.

Response to Video

I found the video "Worlds End, Worlds Begin: The Future of the Humanities" really touching. I wanted to point out a quote that I especially liked: Richard E. Miller states, "The future of the humanities will only exist if we confront the world that really exists, and that is a world where chernobyl exists." The Chernobyl disaster was the worst nuclear power plant accident in history. Miller wanted to put a picture of a classroom after chernobyl occurred, but the publisher thought it was depressing. This shows how people are hesitant to display upsetting photographs/stories, but in reality, we need to be exposed to these happenings. I agree that the human conditions cannot improve without acknowledging the natural disasters that have occurred in the world. That is why it is so important for our generation to be aware of what is happening now and get active.
